IWRESTELDABEARONCE

iwrestledabearonce - "Tastes like Kevin Bacon"

Iwrestledabearonce- "Tastes like kevin bacon"

Very interesting music, by a slightly twisted band (check out their myspace). You're not sure what that means?
Here's an excerpt of the blog post on myspace introducing the new members (line-up has changed since the video):

"First is mikey on drums... mikey is a sexual beast and enjoys long walks on the beach as well as spooning.

next is mim on guitar... she is krysta's sister and she shreds balls. period. the end.

anndd finally we have dave on bass. he is a beast and makes love to the bass like it's an underage malaysian prostitute."

Heavy mosh parts + original music + lead singer and lead guitarist are sisters + funny bits + varied structure = one new fan...me! he!
:)

Hehe, I know right? That singer is sick! I love this band's music, it's so...I don't know it just has the "wow effect" to it.

It's not just hardcore though, they do have hardcore elements in there, but also, as you will notice, jazz, electro, the breakdown parts are mostly death-based, and they spice everything up with grind-like outbursts and doomy growls.

I usually favor bands that mix many different things, you will find me to be a big Dillinger Escape Plan listener, and together with bands such as Fantomas, Exotic Animal Petting Zoo, etc, they are representative of a big part of my musical preferences.(despite the scene itself not being particularly developed, especially compared to the metalcore or nu-metal scenes nowadays ^^)

But then I can really understand your point of view of it being "too hard" as well. It took a long time from the moment I was first exposed to this kind of music to the moment I could honestly say I liked it. I'd say a year give or take. So keep listening for now, and you'll soon realize, as you get accustomed to the genre, that a Converge listener like you has actually heard much more violent stuff before. ;-)

Yes but you know, Converge is very special to me, it's unique. Something push me to listen their music all the time, as if I was a drug addict, so I guess we can define me as a big fan. It's difficult to find other groups which emit such intensity, but all right I'll listen Iwresteldabearonce again, just to be sure that I'm not missing something.

Nice christmas hat! ^^ Coanthem is ready for winter

Hehe, yes I thought I'd create a little holiday spirit :p Glad you like it!
I think you're right, Converge is special in many ways. They play very instinctive, primal music. In this sense, they're quite the opposite of bands like IWABO, where everything seems more planned, technical, organized. It's definitely a different approach...
Nevertheless, I am positively certain you'll be missing out on something if you don't give iwrestledabearonce some more time to sink into you. Generally speaking, I think every band has something to offer to music. With this in mind, it's always a good idea (at least in my opinion)to listen to as many bands as possible, and bands as out of one's comfort zone as possible. It may seem like a strange approach, but I tend to spend a lot of time listening to music that I don't like at first, until I understand it better. Sometimes I re-evaluate my judgment, sometimes I don't, after all there's always the personal taste factor that plays a major part in these things...
