The song by Zao, "The Rising End" is great stuff, albeit perhaps a liiiittle repetitive, but both the main riff and the break (x2) are fantastic! Can you believe these guys are fervent christians?
Converge - Drop out: The beginning is "ok", but the end of this song is PERFECT!!!

Christians? Well... these guys are above all fervent metal musiciens! The music is good, it's lively and the voice is ok but I don't like so much. Do you know the band called Simone Choule? Ju, the singer (the same in Psykup and Manimal) has THE voice: he yells but sings at the same time. It's not just an "animal scream". For me that's the best to create anger and intensity. I like this type of singer, it feels like Art =)
By the way, Unswabbed is great! But I prefer the album "Instinct" compared to "In Situ".
And Converge! To feel alive, that's the best. It's one of the main groups I listen all the time.
Haha yes Christians. I don't know if you're aware of this, but the christian metal/hardcore scene is huge in the states, and has lots to offer. Great quality going on over there.
Check out The Chariot, Norma Jean, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster, Inhale/Exhale, Stick To Your Guns, Thrice, Twelve Gauge Valentine,The Famine, Once Nothing. Basically any band on Solid State Records is Christian, there's also Ferret records but they usually sign softer bands.
Check them out, they are amazing. Actually, although I am a Christian (not that much of church-goer though ^^), I love Solid state record bands mainly for the music. They don't talk much about God and religion anyways, they just have generally positive values and messages, but it's nothing preachy. I find it refreshing, I'm kind of sick of the few main bands on the scene being all dark and evil and so on, they give extreme music a bad name, in my opinion.
I've heard of Simone Choule, but haven't really given them a good listen to be honest...I will when I have time, promise :)
I agree it is important in a scream to have good singing quality. Above all, a scream must come from the heart, convey emotions. It's not like you just can scream for the scream. One of my favorite singers is Cory Brandan from Norma Jean. The song "A Small Spark Vs. A Great Forest", since I heard it the first time, has grown to become my definition of a beautiful violent song. The vocal performance on this track is mind blowing, just like on "Cemetery Like a Stage" or "No passenger, no parasite". It's on the album "Redeemer", not the latest one. And that album is...wow. Along with The Chariot, Norma Jean have a particular style I've become completely addicted to. I encourage you to listen to some of there songs. I must admit it took some time for me to get into there music, but it's been 3 years since I discovered Norma Jean and I can't stop loving their stuff. "Redeemer" is pure genius.
I prefer Unswabbed's "Instinct" too. "In Situ" lacks a bit of power I think. That's why I ordered Instinct rather than In Situ on Amazon. Pragmatism, pragmatism. ^^
